About the Wayton Open

The Wayton Open is the creation of Matthew Wayton. Matt organized a one day tennis tournament as a way to bring together friends for a few games of tennis. As interest in the tournament grew, the annual event expanded into a multiple week tournament and became a popular summertime activity for residents state-wide. 2015 was the eight year of the tournament and saw 220 entries between 10 divisions, the largest field to date.

Held annually in July, the tournament currently consists of divisions for all skill levels. The Wayton Open will offer 10 divisions in 2015: Men's A Singles, Men's B Singles, Men's 45+ Singles, Men's A Doubles, Men's B Doubles, Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, High School Boy's Singles, High School Girl's Singles, and Mixed Doubles. The majority of tournament matches are played at Southington High School where Matt developed a passion for tennis during his senior year in 2005.

A small entry fee of $15 for singles and $30 for doubles is cycled back into the tournament and community through The Wayton Open Scholarship Fund. The tournament is open to the public. The minimum age requirement for the tournament is 12 years old with no maximum age limit. All skill levels are encouraged to participate. All players recieve a official tournament t-shirt, player bag, wristband, and water and balls for every match.

The tournament relies on donations from local businesses to provide refreshments, food, equipment, and advertising for the event.
