Tournament Results/Summary

2023

We saw our 2nd largest field in the 16 years with a total of 285 entries.

  • 11 Divisions were able to run (14 offered). High School Boys Doubles ran for the first time ever.

  • There were 179 matches played over the 9 day tournament fortnight.

  • 8 of the 11 Divisions played crowned first time champions

  • Rain on Championship Sunday affected the tournament for the first time ever. Players waited through 3 separate rain delays. Some matches were able to be played Sunday, some on Monday, some scattered throughout the week. Unfortunately the rain resulted in multiple walkover finals.

The tournament most importantly raised $5,000 for rescue dogs and was proud to present a check to One More Dog Rescue on Championship Sunday, With this donation, the tournament has raised over $25,000 for rescue dogs since 2017.

  • Mixed A Doubles Final: Mark Habek / Cara Habek d. Duggan/O’Neil W/O

Unfortunate ending to a highly skilled division of players. Due to the rain on Sunday and scheduling conflicts the final could not be played. There were no good solutions to this and unfortunately a decision had to be made. This is team Habek / Habek’s second title in this division and third final appearance

  • Mixed B Doubles Final: Luke Howes / Alex Rivera d. Matt Wayton / Alexa Rinaldi 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

Team’s first title in first attempt together. Fantastic run in this division as they faced numerous tough opponents. Awesome tournament for both Luke & Alex as both players won titles in two separate divisions. Team Wayton / Rinaldi’s first final appearance.

  • Men’s B Singles Final: Matt Wayton d. Alim Rodican W/O

Another unfortunate ending in a highly anticipated matchup. Due to rain, wet courts, timing, both players making multiple finals, and scheduling conflicts the following two days, the match unfortunately could not be played. Both players had a great tournament. This is Wayton’s 4th title in the division and Alim’s first appearance in the final.

  • High School Boys Singles Final: Luke Howes d. Christopher Brown 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

Match was played over two days due to rain on Sunday. They came back and finished on Monday evening restarting in the second set. Chris started strong in the restart, winning 5 games in a row to win the set. Then Luke regrouped and took the match in a tight 3rd set on his 5th championship point.

  • Men’s B Doubles Final: Alim Rodican / Andris Reba d. Brady Dulitsky / Alex Hu 6-2, 6-2, 6-2

This was team Rodican/Reba’s first title in the division. They took out former champs and many quality opponents on their route to the championship. The two teams were determined to get this match in. Working on a wet court with squeegees and waiting through multiple delays to try to play. They were lucky to get play in less then ideal conditions.

  • Men’s A Doubles Final: Stefan Jones / Dylan Avena d. Kevin Ho / Andy King 6-4, 6-1

This is team Jones / Avena’s 2nd title and third overall finals appearance. In a rematch of last years championship, they reversed the result.

  • Men’s A Singles Final: Stefan Jones d. Dylan Avena 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.

This is Stefan’s first title in his first finals appearance. He had a fantastic run defeating two former champs (including the defending one) and two former finalists in his four matches en route to the title. This was Avena’s 4th appearance in the final (2-2)

  • Women’s Singles Final: Alex Rivera d. Talia Viger 6-0, 6-1.

Alex’s first division title and second finals appearance. Had to battle and come from behind in 3rd set breaker in the SF.

  • Women’s Doubles Final: Megan Fitzgerald / Evelyn Lavertue d. Alexa Rinaldi / Brooke Rinaldi 6-2, 6-3.

Team Fitzgerald / Lavertue’s first title in first attempt in the division. Team Rinaldi’s first finals appearance .

  • High School Boys Doubles Final: Christopher Brown / Eli Benoit d. Sriram Pyneni / Joshua Nguyen 6-2, 7-6(4).

First time division has run. Good opportunity for a bunch of high school teams to compete against peers.
